Weight Loss Surgery

With advances in both science and medicine, weight loss surgery has become more and more common. It has both good and bad sides to it, but overall, I think we can conclude that it’s a good thing.

What is puzzling to me about weight loss surgery though, is how so many health insurance companies are unwilling to pay for it. The obvious savings they will reap over the lifetime medical issues of an obese person are just mind boggling. Yet a lot of them still reject coverage for weight loss surgery. How dumb can they get?

Weight loss surgery comes in different forms and sizes. There’s the old stanby of liposuction, but that is usually for the vain hollywood types. The others are gastric bypass. That form of weight loss surgery has become more and more popular. I personally know someone who did it. Today he is almost 180 pounds lighter and looks and feels like a totally different person.

That’s not to say weight loss surgery doesn’t have its downfalls. There are complications that can happen that can cause serious health issues or even death. But those are usually rare. If you are thinking about doing it, I’d take your time and discuss all the pros and cons with your surgeon and doctors.

One of the newer and successful forms of weight loss surgery is called the lap band. It seems to be more and more popular because it is not as invasive as gastric bypass but yet many people have just as much success with it. Basically they put a band around the top of your stomach that is adjustable. It tightens of the entry and only allows so much food in so you get fuller quicker. From what I’ve heard it’s a very succesful form of weight loss surgery.

Again, I’d urge you to consider all your options. But in the end you just may find weight loss surgery to be the fastest alternative to traditional weight loss. I mean there are so many diets out there and so many people have tried dozens of them and done nothing but failed. At the end of the day, physically restricting your food intake via weight loss surgery is often the most successful way to lose weight and get one’s health back.

I wish you all the best and hope your search and journey to get healthy is successful!
